Lunchtime Lecture, Adding Value by Design, V&A Museum.
Sebastian was invited to give a lunchtime lecture at the Victoria and Albert Museum this week. The title, Adding Value by Design discusses the role of designer in contributing to a richer and more considered landscape of objects that inhabit our world.
The V&A is full of objects that are admired and kept for future generations. In today’s world, these objects are seen as beautiful, historic and somehow sustainable as they will never need or want to be replaced. During this lunchtime talk, object and furniture designer Sebastian Bergne will discuss the process of adding value to objects through design. Using objects from the collection paired with his own contemporary work as examples, he will share observations of historic works and the methods and motivations behind his own practice.
British object and furniture designer Sebastian Bergne is renowned for making everyday objects special with his essential and human approach to design. Having graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1990, he founded his studio in the same year. His achievements have since been widely recognised with international design awards, frequent publication, exhibitions and inclusion in many museum collections including The Museum of Modern Art (New York), The Muséee des Art Décoratifs (Paris) and the Design Museum (London). His wealth of experience makes him sought after as a curator, lecturer, educator and mentor to emerging design talent.
