Illusion
Marquetry has always been concerned with the manipulation of surface with wood veneers and the inlay of metals and other valuable materials. The Illusion table reinterprets these traditional techniques and ideas of decoration. The table plays with the notion of material solidity with a design that implies it is made of interlocking blocks of solid wood and metal. It also exploits our eye’s weakness in distinguishing ellipses and circles, creating unusual optical effects when viewing the table from different angles.
